“Biblical Courtship”
I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, it’s one of my favorite sermons, by David Fairchild of Kaleo church, called “Biblical Courtship”. I found the hardest hitting part of the sermon was this below:
1 Timothy 5:2 - “(treat) older women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity.”
What do you think he’s talking about? Are you going to sleep with your mom? Probably not - if so you’re sick and belong at the church of Corinth.
When it says “treat older women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity”, and you’re saying “I’ve found a woman and she seems to be Godly, and I think I’m Godly, and we want to court, so here we are courting, what am I allowed to do?”. Let me ask you a question… what would you do with your mom? That should be a nice cold shower for you. Just look at her and go “she’s six months older than me… she’s an older woman… she’s mom”. More importantly, we’re to “treat the younger ladies as sisters”. Now, I hug my sisters (not for terribly extended periods of time), and my sisters kiss me on the cheek, and that’s pretty much it. I don’t have make out sessions with my sisters. I know that’s gross, but come on - you want to know the answer? Okay, “what can I do with her”? Well would you do with your sister? There’s your answer.
If you’re not going to commit incest with just a fleshly human sister, why in the world would you want to commit yourself to spiritual incest with God’s daughter? Now I have a nine year old daughter. If I found out that ANYBODY was messing with my with my daughter, I’d be doing prison ministry from the inside - that’s what would go down. If I as a human father, and I’m sinful, I feel that strongly about protecting my own daughter, how much more does our Father in heaven care about His daughters? How do you think He feels about you trying to cop a feel for His daughter?
